Snowy’s ill

Posted on Wednesday, Mar 15 2006 at 2:06 pm (588) by Rosie in Pets

I’ve been feeling the urge to blog lately, but then again, I didn’t want to. It started last week on Monday. Snowy got ill. Not just a little ill, but the same type of illness Gizmo and Kirby experienced. He refused to eat, wouldn’t drink either. He visited the cat toilet a lot and just lay in a quiet corner somewhere hoping others would leave him alone. I really craved a visit to the vet, I did not feel the need to wait until the morning after, knowing he might die during the night. So I panicked and I called my mum hoping she’d be willing to drive 25 km to the vet.

The vet examined Snowy and discovered that he was suffering from struvite bladder stones. And it was a good thing of me to show up that night. If I had waited until the morning after, Snowy would not have made it during the night. Snowy needed to stay for a few days at the veterinary. The vet “emptied” Snowy’s bladder and catheterized Snowy. On Thursday I was allowed to take Snowy home. It cost a lot, but it was worth the money in my personal opinion. I received a special veterinary diet and some medication. I also received a list of tips and things. On Thursday and Friday, things seemed to be going well. On Saturday it changed again. At night Snowy refused to eat all of his food (and I prepared his food with the medication in it, because that was the only way to make him take the medication). At first I thought this was caused by the fact that I gave him food in the afternoon, because I didn’t want him to be hungry. But it wasn’t like that. Because he became ill again on Sunday morning, just like he was on the previous Monday. I called my vet because I was afraid it was the struvite again. And I was right, again.

And here we are, wednesday afternoon. I just received a phone call from the vet. Snowy cannot come home just yet. Yesterday, they removed the catheter and that went well. But today it became worse. The vets will take some x-ray pictures to see whether they can remove the struvite another way. I’ll hear more about that tomorrow. But he probably won’t be coming home tomorrow. I’ll just sit here and wait nervously. I don’t want to lose Snowy :(

I don’t want to talk about it. It still hurts too much and I’m having trouble not to cry, so rather not. I only want to tell that Kirby died yesterday morning. He was 2 years and 3 months old.

Kirby & Gizmo

Last weekend (Saturday to be precise) I got a shocking phone call from my mother. Like many friends know we’re not always swimming in cash, but luckily I had some at hand now.

I was preparing dinner. Just as we sat down to eat, I got the phone call from my mother. She was panicking and told that Kirby couldn’t walk anymore (his backside was dragging behind him). It only started that day and got worse by the minute.

In the end it turned out she had no money left, so I took some money out of my account so she could go to the vet. It turned out Kirby had struvite. He just made it, because the bladder shouldn’t be larger than 1-3 cm in size, and it was 6 cm. The bladder was about to explode and that would have been the end of it.

The vet sent my mother home in between, because Kirby had already had 5 anesthesia shots and was screaming his lungs out. When my mother came to collect Kirby he was really woozy (because of the anesthesia). But he was alive!

Kirby is doing a little bit better now. He is still woozy, but recovering and you can see the rascal in him is waking up again. I can’t cope with it, losing another cat, that would be the second this year. That’s too many!

Kirby will probably remain ill the rest of his life, though he does get special food which should make things better. As long as he takes his medicine (he doesn’t like that much though, which cat does?) and sticks to the special food.

I was really happy to see Kirby, although he looked a little ‘dead’ Saturday evening, which frightened me and made me think of Gizmo, who I think died of the same disease last March. Gizmo was suddenly ill as well. The vet here in Etten-Leur didn’t want to help us. It was Sunday and they said we didn’t care about Gizmo if we called on a Sunday night. Then why for God’s sake do we call? Because we like that he’s deadly ill? We called another vet and he wanted to help us, but not until the next morning. At least a vet who did want to help.

I stayed awake during the night, looking after Gizmo, but he died at half past 2 at night, while I was begging to fight just a little bit longer. I cried a lot. It feels terrible when a cat, half in coma, dies in your arms and you can’t do anything about it.

It still hurts..

Baptize Yero & Father’s Day

Posted on Sunday, Jun 19 2005 at 2:36 am (067) by Rosie in Family, Pets, SNW

Today was father’s day. Yes, it actually still is father’s day. It begun as a stressful day. In the beginning we had a fight because we were late. I would be attending a baptize in the Saint Jans church in Waalwijk at 13.45h. After that we would go to Yero’s parents (Eddy and Sharon) for a cup of coffee and cake. Everything was running a bit late though, which made the rest of the plans go to waste.

Together with my mother we would visit my grandpa’s grave, my father’s grave and my uncle Toon’s grave. But we didn’t leave until after 18.00h, because it was running late. This triggered a fight and made me release all my stress. I feel relieved now but hate that I didn’t visit the graves anymore. I promise (myself) that I will go by all the graves this month. It’s also the thought that counts, but it didn’t really make a difference.

We just came home and I got a baby carrier from Sharon and Eddy, thank you for that. Anyway, Snowy is continuously watching “What is that thing, does it bite?” Hahaha, lol. At least now I have a baby carrier, play pen, and small stuff like clothes and stuffed animals.

I was just watching F1 and it’s a disaster, Michelin. The tires were too risky so they’re only driving cars with Bridgestone tires. That means 3 teams, each of which has 2 cars. 6 Cars in total in the US of A. And they are angry. I understand. $250 for a ticket, each, is expensive. Becoming a premium at Simsnetwork is a much better deal.

Yesterday I made some quick calculations, in which I assume to post about 30 downloads a day on the sites. That will come down to 210 downloads each week, 10950 downloads a year. 30 Is a nice round figure. If I got rid of the late work and there are no downloads left, then I can make 30 skins in no-time, and it’s fun. Packing and uploading 30 skins takes me about 10 minutes, since I make them myself and know those by heart and so I can finish them quicker than somebody else’s downloads. Nice lookout. At least 10.000 downloads a year. Just not this November, because we’re planning to go to Paris for a few days. Well that’s all for now. Like anybody reads this hahaha.. See you next time..
