Portfolio 2009

Here’s a summary of web design and web development projects I have done in 2009:

MacDesperate

Four crazy people including myself registered the MacDesperate domain in spring of 2008. We had big plans for the domain but were all so busy it got postponed to 2009. So this year, we started working on it in the fall. I designed the MacDesperate website. I will also post content (desktop goodies and posts about must have items). Cheetah was (and still is) responsible for the technical stuff (mostly scripts). Wouter provided us with the beginning of the donation script and he will also be writing witty columns. Tales will mostly update news and he is also our only team member already owning a MacBook :P

Ik Ga Naar Ghana (Website)

This is a Dutch travel blog for Lisanne. She’s helping and teaching children in Ghana. I’ve also created her photo gallery which you can view below the website. Both the website and gallery are tested and work in most browsers. A few fun features are the handdrawn doodles, text and icons used in the sidebar and menu. Custom gravatar icons for the users, also handdrawn. And the headers change 3 times a day; day, evening and night. The night header also has animated tiny stars, as requested by Lisanne. The header represents a bit of a beach, since Lisanne is staying near Accra most of her time in Ghana. And that’s near the water. The content is placed in a page like shape, representing a piece of paper.

Ik Ga Naar Ghana (Photo Gallery)

This is the matching gallery for Lisanne’s travel blog “Ik Ga Naar Ghana”. She will be uploading her travel pictures here. The features in this gallery are the same as the blog features; the header changes every x hours; day, evening and night. The night header has animated tiny stars.

SporeNetwork (Website)

I designed the new SporeNetwork website 2008. The design and most of the work for it was finished in 2008. I however never got a chance to finish it as I was too busy with my personal life and other projects. Since this is my own website, I had to put this on hold. On this website I try to bring the latest news, previews, reviews, creatures, goodies like wallpapers and much more. It’s definitely a nice site to look at and it contains a lot of unique content. The website can be seen in English and Dutch.

SporeNetwork (Forum)

I launched the new forums in 2008. But I recently made a few important changes to the looks of the forums (header, menu, some tiny changes).

Sims 3 Nieuws (Forum)

The team members of Sims 3 Nieuws craved a matching forum for their new website. Everything has been taken care of, event he tiniest details, to fulfill the team members wishes! It blends in very well with the website.

Sims 3 Nieuws (Website)

A Dutch Sims 3 fansite with the latest news about this game! They previously used Blogger to bring the world the latest news about The Sims 3, but soon they discovered that it was too limited to suit their needs. That’s why they asked me to create a new website with a good looking and functional design.

I also changed the looks of Sims 3 Nieuws’s Twitter and YouTube pages:

Juniorwood

This is Junior’s new Hollywood website. It’s glamorous, Art Deco styled and full of humor and previews. It comes in two languages now, English and Dutch. The cool features include a time dependent header which changes throughout the day; Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night. It has everything a celebrity like Junior could want on a website!

Miss Design/Rosana Kooymans
Each year I try to improve my portfolio. And in 2009 I had many plans for my portfolio:

  • The top navigation has changed drastically.
  • Many new pages have been added and existing pages have been edited.
  • Lots of top navigation items have been added to sub menus to keeps things more organized.
  • I updated my web portfolio pages from 2003 until 2009.
  • The photography links now go to my separate gallery. I don’t see why I would upload my pictures on a handful of websites when I have a beautiful gallery.
  • There is now a Latest Website block and a Latest Artwork block, so people can easily see what I have made recently.
  • The Social Networking block is a lot shorter. It now only contains the websites I frequently visit. The others can still be found on a separate page.
  • Soon there will be a Hire Me block, so people can actually hire me. Before this new layout, I only showed some of my work. I didn’t offer people the opportunity to hire me directly. Now they can.
  • I changed the Contact page. It has a different, extended contact form.
  • The header photos will be added and changed in a later stadium this year.

Fast Finger

Fast Finger is a cover band from The Netherlands. I have been designing and maintaining their website for about 6 years now. To save both the band and me some time, I made their website into a CMS (Drupal) and designed a whole fancy new layout around it. It’s modern, yet classic.
I already completed the design in 2008, though meeting up with the band to discuss things further happened in 2009. Thus the delay.

MySimsNetwork/MySimsNetwerk

When I found out that MySims was coming to PC, and that you would be able to share your workshop furniture with friends, I decided it was time to startup a MySims fansite. I already had a Sims site, but MySims is so different, it just didn’t fit in with the rest.
Contentwise it’s a bit like my other Sims fansites, as it offers news, forums, articles, screenshots, downloads and goodies. Although I had registered, build and designed this website in 2008, I decided to wait publishing it until 2009 because I had a lot of content to add and I did not wish to publish and empty website.
The website runs on Drupal and is both English and Dutch. Unlike my other (older) fansites, this fansite shares one database, which will make it easier for me to maintain in the future.
